We wanted that to be more than a commemoration — so we went back to first principles and asked why we gather at all, how we learn best, and what this Congress should become.

Welcome to the 95th RACS Annual Scientific Congress, and to the College’s centenary year.

Gone is the passive familiarity of conferences’ past. Over four days you will find an intellectually provocative program: spirited debate, deep teaching, and sessions designed to challenge rather than reassure.
The centrepiece is the Sub-Plenary Experience, new for 2027. Four concurrent streams, each devoted to a single theme.. Four uninterrupted hours in which assumptions get tested and thinking gets recalibrated. Alongside them, cross-disciplinary sessions bring small groups of College sections together on a single issue, examined from several perspectives at once.
The essentials endure. Traditional CPD sessions will sharpen your surgical practice. But ASC 2027 also ventures into the parts of surgery we discuss less openly – the ethical dilemmas, the moral crossroads, the seismic questions shaping the future of care. You will find sessions where the decisive instrument is not the scalpel but judgment, perspective and principle.
You will notice something else. This Congress has been led, in spirit and in design, by those in the first half of their careers. A century of service is worth celebrating. The next one is worth planning.
