Dr Vanessa Banz Wuethrich completed her medical training at the University of Bern and underwent her residency trainings at Department of General Surgery at Kantonsspital Olten from 2002 to 2003 and at Kantonsspital Lucerne from 2004 – 2005. She also completed training at the Department of Visceral Surgery and Medicine at the University Hospital in Bern from 2006 to 2008. In 2008, Dr Banz Wuethrich joined the Liver Research Group, Institute of Biomedical Research at University of Birmingham in the UK for her Fellowship training for one year and in 2009, she finished her Fellowship training at the Hepatopancreaticobiliary and Liver Transplant Unit at the University of Birmingham, UK. Upon completing her training, Vanessa returned to Switzerland to work at University Bern from 2010 and became a consultant surgeon in 2015. In addition, she was promoted to be the co-Head of Transplantation Centre Inselespital and later moved into the position as Lead of the Liver Transplant Program at the Department of Visceral Surgery and Medicine in 2018. Vanessa holds membership status at various professional bodies, including the Swiss Surgical Society, Swiss Working Group for Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Surgery, the Association for Research in Switzerland, the European Society for Organ Transplantation, and the Swiss Transplant Society. She also sat on the Swissknife, Editorial Board between 2010 to 2015, in addition to several other Boards and Trust appointments.
