Professor Daniel Candinas

Daniel Candinas is professor of surgery with a focus on visceral surgery at University Hospital Bern. He commenced residency training in general surgery at University Hospital Zurich from 1988 – 1993; he further undertook his Fellowship trainings at the Liver and Hepatobiliary Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK from 1993 – 1994, and the Sandoz Center for Immunobiology and Department of Surgery from 1994 – 1995. He later became an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard from 1995 – 1996. 


Professor Candinas started at University of Zurich Hospital as a consultant surgeon from 1996 and became the clinical lead of the abdominal transplant program in 1999. He moved to Birmingham, UK in 1999 and commenced his post at a consultant surgeon and senior lecturer at the Liver and Hepatobiliary Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In 2002, Professor Candinas moved to Bern as the Chairman, Department of Gastrointestinal, Liver and Chest Disease at the Clinic of Visceral and Transplant Suregry at University Hospital Bern and since 2016, he has been acting as Vice Rector for Research at University of Bern, Switzerland.
