Dr Lay-Hooi Lim

Penang, Malaysia

Dr Lay-Hooi Lim is a consultant plastic & reconstructive surgeon currently based in Penang, Malaysia. After graduating from University of Malaya medical school in 1984, she commenced her surgical training in general surgery at various Ministry of Health hospitals in Malaysia, following which she passed her FRCS examinations in Edinburgh in 1988. She went on to train in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Adelaide and Sydney, passed her FRACS (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) exams in 1993

and proceeded to a locum consultant appointment in the UK before returning to her native Penang in 1995 to set up the first resident plastic surgery service at Penang General Hospital, which she headed until 2020. 

 

Her tenure in the Malaysian Ministry of Health included service as national head of plastic surgery from 2005 to 2014, plus contributions at hospital, state and national levels in areas of surgical services, training, and aesthetic medical practice regulation. Dr Lim was President for 2 terms, of the Malaysian Association of Plastic, Aesthetic & Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons (2010 – 2014), President of the Asian Pacific Craniofacial Association (2008 – 2010), President of the 8th Congress Asia Pacific Cleft Lip & Palate, Craniofacial Anomalies (2015), National Secretary in the council of the Oriental Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (1998 – 2011), Educational Board member of AOCMF Asia Pacific (2007 – 2013).

 

She currently remains as Council member of the Asian Pacific Craniofacial Association, Education Faculty member of AOCMF Asia Pacific, Chair of the Malaysian Board of Plastic Surgery (MAPACS), member of the Education Committee in Plastic Surgery at the National Specialist Register of the Malaysian Medical Council, and Programme Lead (in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow) of the Plastic Surgery Parallel Pathway Training Committee Ministry of Health

Malaysia. In her current clinical appointments as Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Gleneagles Penang and Honorary Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Penang Hospital, she regards herself as a community plastic and reconstructive surgeon for the population of Penang and the hinterland, continually striving to be a good ambassador for her chosen specialty of plastic surgery.
