Dr Gnanaraj Jesudian

Dr Gnanaraj Jesudian is a Rural Surgeon working in remote and rural areas for four decades. He trained as a General Surgeon and Urologist at CMC Vellore, a premier Medical College in India. His passion is to take modern surgery to rural areas and is currently working on Gas Insufflation Less Laparoscopic Surgeries that make laparoscopic surgeries possible under the easily available and low-cost Spinal Anesthesia. He also designed the Laptop Cystoscope that costs one twentieth of the conventional Cystoscopy and makes diagnostic cystoscopies and minor procedures possible even in areas where there is no electricity. He is the Secretary of the International Federation of Rural Surgeons and Past President of the Association of Rural Surgeons of India [ARSI]. He won many innovations awards including the

prestigious Lockheed Martin award and the Millennium Alliance awards given by the Government of India. His innovations were recognized by WHO in its compendium of medical devices for resource poor setting, Lancet Commission on Global Health, GE healthcare, ARSI (Antia Finseth award), Emmanuel Hospital Association and others. He has few patents and many publications. He developed courses for training rural surgeons and has helped 64 rural and remote hospitals in India and African countries start minimally invasive surgeries. He has conducted many workshops for rural surgeons training in Gas Less Laparoscopic Surgeries and Rural Urology both in India and African countries. He works with the biomedical engineering teams from University of Leeds, Delft University and Karunya University. He is the Secretary of the
