Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is situated approximately 50kms from central Kuala Lumpur. KLIA website: www.klia.com.my. Getting to and from KLIA can be achieved by train, taxi or bus. Rail services may be accessed from KLIA.

Rail
KLIA Ekspres is the fastest way to travel to the city, as the journey only takes 28 minutes non-stop. The service operates from 5.00am with the last service departing KLIA at 1.00am. The service terminates at the KL City Air Terminal (KL CAT) in KL Sentral, however additional transport to reach the Congress hotels will be required from this point. From KL Sentral, take the Green Line train (Direction/Terminal Putra) and alight at KLCC Station. The recommended hotels are all within easy walking distance of the KLCC shopping centre. An open mini bus regularly departs from KLCC shopping centre to Traders Hotel (10 minutes).

Taxis
Airport taxis operate on a coupon system which can be purchased from the International Arrival Hall (just after Customs, before the public arrival area), Domestic Arrival Hall (public area after domestic baggage clearance) or the domestic baggage reclaim, arrival level. All taxis will take you to your destination at a prepaid rate. Vehicles range from a budget taxi through to limousines and are charged accordingly.

Buses
Express Coaches depart every 30 minutes from KLIA to KL Sentral. The journey time is approximately one hour. Please note additional public transport will be required from KL Sentral to the Congress Hotels. Fares range from RM10.00 to RM18.00. For further information please visit www.airportcoach.com.my

Please note that AirAsia flights arrive and depart from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), which is located 75kms from central Kuala Lumpur and 20kms from KLIA. Taxis and bus services operate from LCCT. Buses depart every 20 minutes to KL Sentral: Cost 9RM

Things to know when travelling to Malaysia

Facilities are available at various locations throughout the city. The Ringgit (RM) is the Malaysian currency.

Insurance

Passport and Visa Requirements
Passports – All visitors to Malaysia must carry a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of departure.

Visas – Entry Visas are generally not required by Australian and New Zealand citizens for entry into Malaysia. For more information please refer to the Visa section on the Malaysian Department of Immigration website, www.imi.gov.my

Climate
Malaysia has a tropical climate. The temperature ranges between 21°C to 32°C. Humidity levels will also be quite high. It is advisable to wear light and cool clothing in the day. A jacket is suitable for evenings in air-conditioned restaurants.

Tipping and Service Charges/Taxes
In Malaysia the current service charge is 10% and government tax is 6%. The government tax rate is subject to change. Most restaurants and hotels will impose the 10% service charge, so tipping is often not necessary.
